In this exercise, we will create an empty TIN surface in a new drawing.

Create a TIN surface in a new drawing

1. Click New.
2. In theSelect Template dialog box, browse to the tutorial folder. Select related drawing if you have. Click Open.
3. Click  tab  panel  drop-down  Find.
4. In theCreate Surface dialog box, forType, select TIN surface.

   Note:

   By default, a newSurface Layer will be created named C-TOPO- followed by the name you enter in theName cell. You can also click to specify an existing layer for the surface. Cogo Points

5. In theProperties table, specify the following parameters:
   • Name:EG
   • Description:Existing Ground surface from imported point data
   • Style:Points and Border

     Tip:To select the style, click theValue cell, and then click to display theSelect Surface Style dialog box.

   • Render Material: ByLayer
6. ClickOK.
7. InToolspace, on theProspector tab, expand the Surfaces collection.

   The new surface name is displayed in the Surfaces collection inToolspace on theProspector tab, but this surface does not contain any data.

Import point data into the current drawing

1. This drawing contains an empty surface definition, which is named EG.
2. ClickModify tab Ground Data panel Surface Find.
3. ClickSurface tab Modify panel Add Data Point Files Find.
4. UnderSelected Files, click.
5. In theSelect Source File dialog box, select your file. ClickOpen.
6. In theAdd Point File dialog box, underSpecify Point File Format, selectPENZD (Space Delimited).
7. In theAdd Point File dialog box, clickOK.
8. At the command line, enterZE.
