As PC sales stall, Samsung exec has harsh words for Windows 8 - starkqued1956

With Windows 8 doing pocket-size to spark laptop computer sales, you can hear the grousing of PC makers get louder.

The latest complaints descend from Jun Dong-Soo, president of Samsung's memory scrap division, who had no kind words for Windows 8 during a meeting with reporters in Seoul.

"The global PC industry is steadily shrinking despite the launch of Windows 8," he said Friday, according to Korea Multiplication. "I think the Windows 8 scheme is no better than the previous Windows View political platform."

Jun's statements echo findings by IDC and Gartner, who found that PC sales declined during the holiday shopping season. Jun added that Microsoft's Surface has seen "lackluster involve," and that demands for diluent Ultrabooks past Microsoft and Intel failing "mostly because of the less-competing Windows program."

Samsung International Relations and Security Network't the first society to have an executive publicly complain about Windows 8. In January, Acer President Jim Wong same that "Windows 8 itself is still non successful," noting that the market had not returned to growth after the new OS launched.

Wong was more encouraged by the growth of Acer's Chromebooks, the latest of which launched in late 2022.

Meanwhile, HP, the globe's number 1 PC maker, is exploring other options on the far side Windows.The company released its first Chromebook in February, and will send its first Android tablet in April. (H.P. hasn't dissed Windows 8 publicly, but hardware brag Todd Bradley did fling a couple of insults at Microsoft's Show u RT and Windows RT in November.)

Little powerful hardware for Win 8?

It does seem disingenuous for Personal computer makers to pin the blame exclusively on Microsoft's OS, as if the hardware is without mistake. So far, PC makers haven't put forward much in the way of compelling Windows 8 hybrids and convertibles, and the ones that did launch late senior class were in short provide.

There's evidence that people are interested in touch-founded Windows 8 machines—Asus admitted Eastern Samoa much this week, even as the accompany said general Windows 8 acceptance was low—but the selection of necessity improvement.

It's possible that close-generation processors from Intel and AMD, along with refinements to the Windows software in an update codenamed Windows Blue, could make for a healthy second wave of software.

Microsoft is also rumored to slash licensing costs for small, touch-based laptops and hybrids, which could meliorate Windows 8's chances on the low end of the market. Perhaps that's what PC makers are hoping to carry out with their public grumblings.
